Understanding the Review Process

NYFVI uses a structured review process to evaluate grant applications and ensure that funding decisions are fair, transparent, and aligned with program goals.

While specific procedures may vary by program, the review process generally includes several steps.

Initial Application Screening

After the submission deadline, applications are reviewed to confirm that they meet basic eligibility and submission requirements.

This step may include verifying that:

  • The applicant meets eligibility criteria
  • Required documents are included
  • The proposal fits within the scope of the program

Applications that do not meet these requirements may not move forward in the review process.

Proposal Evaluation

Eligible applications are evaluated based on the criteria outlined in the program guidelines.

Reviewers assess proposals based on factors such as:

  • Alignment with program priorities
  • Quality and clarity of the project plan
  • Feasibility of the proposed work
  • Potential impact on New York agriculture

In some programs, proposals may be reviewed by advisory panels or subject matter experts.

Funding Recommendations

Following the review process, recommendations are developed regarding which projects should receive funding.

These recommendations consider both proposal quality and how well projects align with the goals and priorities of the program.

Notification of Applicants

Once funding decisions have been finalized, applicants will be notified of the outcome.

Successful applicants will receive additional information about next steps, including contracting and project implementation. Applicants who are not selected may be encouraged to apply in future funding opportunities.
