Note that USDA NASS classifies farms according to the primary activity of the farm. This prevents double counting of farms, but also means that some activities are undercounted. Corn farming is surely undercounted, as thousands of farms where Dairy is identified as the primary activity also raise corn for feed or sale. Another example is Apple Orchards that, secondarily, grow other fruit, such as pears, so that "Pear Farms" do not show up here.
